Rancho Bernardo pets to show their patriotic spirit – The San Diego Union-Tribune
Posted On June 25, 2020
Rancho Bernardans will not be able to gather for the Fourth of July this year, but through their pets can still demonstrate their patriotic spirit.
Following the success of a pandemic-imposed virtual twist on its sidewalk chalk art event in early May, the Rancho Bernardo Community Council has decided to put a similar twist on its Patriotic Pet Contest so it can still occur.
The 10th annual competition was originally to be held during the community fair in Webb Park at Rancho Bernardo’s Spirit of the Fourth festivities. With COVID-19 health restrictions, all of Rancho Bernardo’s Independence Day events have been canceled.
Now, pet owners are being asked to dress up their dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, hamsters, rats, rabbits and other pets in patriotic costumes and email a high resolution photo of them to the council at Admin@RBCommunityCouncil.com by 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 3. Submissions need to include the owner’s name and pet’s name.
The photos will be judged and the first-, second- and third-place winners will be announced by 3 p.m. on July 4.
By submitting photos, participants give the council full rights to use them in any promotions.
